Isn’t that it? Isn’t that pretty much where it all started? Those words were originally spoken while Trayvon was alive on the night of February 26, 2012. Those words came out of the mouth of the 911 dispatcher that Zimmerman proactively called. Those words were clearly delivered to the ear of Zimmerman, to which he affirmed by responding with “ok” (albeit reluctantly). After which, those same words were subsequently ignored by Zimmerman which directly led to him murdering Trayvon Martin.
Those words… Should have been enough / were SuPPoSeD to be enough to avert the death of a Black child that has been dragged through the media for over a year as a thug who deserved what he eventually got. To some people that walk among us every single day, this here was long overdue. It was inevitable. This was Trayvon's calling in the form of a future that could not be deviated from. He - like all the other hoodlums that stomp through our ghettos, are deserving of these types of ends.
“Why can’t “you people” see that that black “man” was in the wrong here?” is what many of us (who know that this clearly qualifies as above & beyond “travesty”) are continuously hearing & having to contend with now. There is no possible purity connected to this Black child as far as they are concerned. And the reason is that Trayvon was never seen as the child that he was. His size and blackness made him a menacing man in the eyes of many. His 17 years of age was totally irrelevant and practically disregarded. His black presence and stature took precedence. His immaturity in life itself was irrelevant. His inexperience to being followed by some stranger on a dark rainy night had no relevance and was inconsequential. His possible teaching from an earlier age; that >you should avoid – and if need be - run from strangers< was totally otiose and was “prevented” from helping him while he was alive - while his average & harmless short experience of life has not helped him after his premature & wrongful death.
There was (and is) no presumption of innocence on the side of this Black child by a disturbing number of so-called patriotic Christians who adore the freedoms that this country bequeaths onto them while claiming to love and obey their lord & savior and trumpets his praises while walking out of their respective churches every Sunday. (just as their ancestors did right before they would all gather to enjoy an afternoon delight of lynching) I have heard a caller on a talk radio show state that if Trayvon had never been suspended in the first place, he wouldn’t have been there to be killed in the 2nd place. Now understand, the caller had somewhat prefaced his asinine statement with something to the effect of… “I know that it’s kind of a stretch but let me get this out”. So even though he knew that he was about to say something that would clearly qualify as “beyond the pale” – he said it anyway. These are the kinds of people that feel No Shame due to the unconscious White privilege that they bask in everyday of their lives while not even being cognizant of it.
“We don’t need you to do that” are 7 words that should have saved Trayvon’s life on that February night and as idiotic as that sounds (even within the proper context) – it is a statement that is indelibly encased in Truth. But “the ignoring” of those 7 words by Zimmerman has been ignored by all of the bloodthirsty ghouls that gleefully sneer at Trayvon’s death. The Trayvon haters make no real acknowledgement of it because they can’t defend it; the same reason why Zimmerman would not be able to if he were ever to be asked why did he "choose" to ignore those words.
We live in a country that sees us as “guilty” as soon as we wake up in the morning and Trayvon’s skin color had done him in in the court of public opinion long before the official court proceedings began. Not only was this scared child made to look as if he was the aggressor but he was also made to look like the one who introduced race into this whole heart-wrenching tragedy because at one point there was testimony given that said he called Zimmerman a “cracker”. But those same hateful individuals conveniently chooses to forget that during the same court proceedings – by the same person – All of us were told that Trayvon also called Zimmerman a “nigga”. So for all of the White racists out there, please tell me, how do you square that circle? Are you seriously going to admit that you are stupid enough to trust that during the brief moments in between the time that he called Zimmerman a “creepy ass cracker” and then a “nigga” – Trayvon believed that Zimmerman some kind of miraculous way, changed his race? (Because as we all know, nigger/nigga of course means a "less than" black - at least to all racists)
Now if all of us would truly like to conduct a serious discourse about this, what does "that alone" say to you and I? It states clearly that "racism" was the last thing on Trayvon Martin's mind - along with - that the Black youth of today uses these words (and others) irrespective of race. Race has virtually nothing to do with those words when they speak them; they have a lexicon that is soundly unique to them alone.
Those same Trayvon haters are also (and obviously) not concerned with the type of vocabulary used by Zimmerman which is proven by the dismissal of the word "coon" which was spoken by Zimmerman during his pursuit of Trayvon. Now does there exist some lexicon that any of us are privy to that could harmlessly explain away that word being directed at young Mr. Martin? Where are the talkers who are willing & serious enough to converse about the "original" video tape of Zimmerman that was recorded in the police station of Sanford?(roughly a half an hour after he killed the child that he considered an "F'n coon") The video tape showing that not only did Zimmerman display no disfigured nose but not a drop of blood was to be seen anywhere on his person, along with a totally smooth & clean head. Now I don't know about any of you but I see that as a pretty "neat trick" - to appear totally sparkling & calm right after being so brutalized and traumatized by this black manimal which made him so fear for his life to the extent that he felt that his only avenue of recourse & self preservation was to shoot the kid directly in his chest.
I submit to all of you that the prosecution didn't drop the ball, they never bothered picking it up in the first place.
As Matt McGill said on his WVON radio show last Tuesday morning, "Zimmerman over-ACTED. He did not overreact, he over-acted". And allow me go there again - Whatever Zimmerman "supposedly" reacted to would have never transpired if he would have never ignored those 7 words. There is no getting around that no matter how much anyone chooses to defend his ill-conceived actions afterwards.
We live in a country that is always ready to pounce on us when they claim that it's the other way around! This country has never allowed us to just freely be ourselves. We have been relentlessly crucified for not conforming to be like them "in and out of corporate America". How is it your business and concern how we dress and act while we're not on your clock or your premises or in your institutions? Your prejudice preconceptions kill us regularly. Your thirst to rid "your" streets of "our" thugs imprisons and kills innocent lives. And in doing that, you miss your very own thugs!
I'll tell you what, here is what We don't need the racist White faction of America to do...
We don’t need you to profile us: to make it even clearer - stop racially profiling us.
We don't need you to see our casual attire as thug-wear when your same casual attire is, "casual attire".
We don't need you to prejudge our youth’s vernacular due to your immense ignorance of it.
We don't need you to not identify yourself (from a non threatening distance) before you approach us - after you have ignored 7 words that could and should have saved our lives.
We don’t need you to cartoonishly act as if everything that we say is a lie or is an exaggeration.
We don’t need you to ignore the mountains of studies and data that 100% backs up our irrefutable statements on how there is still vast amounts of institutionalized racism interwoven into almost every damn system in this country.
We don't need you to publicly crucify us for our swagger, the exact same way that we have never needed you to publicly crucify us for our skin color.
We don't need you to subconsciously (and expressively) label us as natural born suspects.
We don’t need you to so easily believe that a black teen with no violent history in his background with >just bought candy< in his pocket can just flip a switch and turn into some sort of vengeful mindless attack-animal!
We don't need you "good god-fearing folk" to rub your "victory" in our Black faces by celebrating "your win" over this Black child's grave.
But what we do need you to do, is leave us the @#%* alone and allow us to live in this country in Peace.
Are you capable of doing that?
